September 22, 2012: Mary Kadderly
West Cafe hosts a distinctive voice in downtown Portland
Mary Kadderly’s smoky vocals recall Natalie Cole in her “Unforgettable” phase, though she can get sassy and coy like Kay Starr, be as coolly detached as Sade, and ooze overt sensuality like Julie London. More information can be found at www.marykadderly.com.

September 29, 2012: The Originals
West Cafe invites you for the jazz sounds of old time radio
The Originals are a jazz trio in the traditions of Ahmad Jamal, Hank Jones, and Red Garland. The Originals play jazz standards of the 40′s, 50′s, and 60′s. The repertoire is drawn from what is known as the “Great American Songbook”, featuring composers such as Gershwin, Ellington, Rodgers, Hart, and more. Featured are Don McFarlane on piano, Morgan Curtis on drums, and Jules Auger on string bass.
The group has been together for more than two years. Their name comes from their origin as one of the very first ensembles coached by jazz educator and drummer, Alan Jones at AJAM.
Date: Saturday, September 29 and Saturday, October 6th, 2012. YES! The Originals will play two Saturdays in a row as they start off next month’s jazz line up.
